Sunless Tanning Products have been around for quite some time. Coppertone introduced their first sunless lotion in 1960. The early sunless tanning products left you with an orange glow. But we have come a long way with these products, those available on the market today give you a much more natural looking tan. Products such as Idol Tan, that you use over and over, give you a very natural, bronze looking tan.
But how do these products work? Sunless tanning lotions and sunless tanning sprays contain the active ingredient, dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This ingredient is actually a colorless sugar that interacts with the dead skin cells on the outer layers of your skin. This interaction causes the color to change. But over time, you will lose these dead skin cells, so the color does fade, generally lasting about four to seven days. This is why the sunless lotion should be applied once or twice a week, to keep your tan looking fresh.
If you are in the UK, you may want to look into the Body Bronzing Instant Tan Spray, giving you a natural looking tan in an easy to use spray, so no messy hands.
